Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen reiterated OIC's full support to the people of Kashmir in their legitimate struggle for the fundamental right to self-determination.
Al-Othaimeen said this while presiding over the Seminar and Photo Exhibition on Kashmir, jointly organized by the Pakistan Jeddah Consulate and the OIC, at the headquarters of the OIC General Secretariat on Monday. This is the second consecutive year that the secretary general had presided over the seminar, held under the theme of Kashmir continues to Bleed.
The OIC chief called on the Indian government to stop using force against the Kashmiri people. He informed that the issue of Jammu and Kashmir has been one of the most important preoccupations of the OIC over three decades.
Al-Othaimeen condemned the human rights violations against the Kashmiri people perpetrated by India. He recalled his recent meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, during which they particularly discussed the issue of Kashmir. The secretary general assured the prime minister of OIC's unflinching support on the Kashmir issue. In his welcoming speech, Pakistani Consul General Shehryar Akbar Khan said that Kashmir Black Day event was organized to mark the illegal entry of Indian forces into occupied Jammu and Kashmir in 1947. He thanked the OIC and Saudi Arabia as well as the member states and the international community for supporting the cause of the people of Kashmir in their legitimate struggle against foreign occupation.
The consul general said that the government of Pakistan will continue to extend all moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people in their historic struggle. He highlighted the plight of the Kashmiris under foreign occupation and urged the international community to persuade India to end human rights violations and support the UN Report's recommendation to constitute a Commission of Inquiry (COI) to investigate the human rights violations in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
True Representative of Kashmiri People Ghulam Muhammad Safi briefed the audience about the prevailing situation and continued human rights violations in the Indian-occupied Kashmir. He called on the international community and the OIC, in particular, to play its role so that the people of Kashmir can exercise their inherent right to self-determination.
Members of the Kashmir Committee in Jeddah presented to OIC Secretary General Al-Othaimeen a resolution, calling for the Organization to redouble its efforts to resolve the Kashmir issue.
The Photo Exhibition and Seminar on Indian-occupied Kashmir at the OIC General Secretariat has become an annual feature for the past five years. The event was well attended by high-level OIC officials including Special Envoy on Jammu and Kashmir Ambassador Abdullah Al-Alim, Saudi officials, members of Diplomatic Corps, local dignitaries and representatives of Pakistan community. The Consulate also organized other events to commemorate Kashmir Black Day this year.
