Riyadh Spokesman the Arab Coalition Forces in Support of Legitimacy in Yemen Col. Turki al-Maliki welcomed the appointment of Martin Griffiths as UN special envoy to Yemen.
"We welcome the opening of the Office of the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary General in the interim capital of Aden," Maliki told the weekly press briefing here on Wednesday. He called on all UN organizations and NGOs to open offices in Aden.
The spokesman paid tribute to the efforts exerted by former UN Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed. However, he added, those efforts had often reached a standstill due to the practices of the Houthi militias and their intransigence and disregard of international laws and resolutions.
Maliki reiterated the firm position of the Arab Coalition countries on the need for the putschists to abide by the UN resolutions and the three references to the political solution of the Yemen crisis.
