Khartoum (SUNA) Sudanese Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Awad Mohamed Ibn Auf received here on Wednesday a delegation of the African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC), led by Ambassador Hope Tumukunde, the permanent representative of Rwanda to AU and chairperson of the PSC for May.
During the meeting, Ibn Auf briefed the PSC members on the efforts being made by Sudan to achieve peace in the country, especially through the holding of the national dialogue conference, in which all the political forces participated. This is in addition to the negotiations held with the armed movements to create the conditions for a national reconciliation and lasting peace in the country.
The Sudanese minister also reviewed the overall security situation in the country, particularly in Darfur. He pointed out that the region has witnessed stability and security thanks to the success of the Firearms Collection Campaign as well as the efforts exerted by the local authorities through implementing the program of voluntary repatriation of Sudanese refugees to their homes.
Ibn Auf further highlighted Sudan's efforts to maintain peace and security in Africa, combat terrorism and cross-border crimes. Members of PSC delegation concluded on Wednesday a four-day field mission to Sudan, during which they urged all Sudanese parties to commit to the full realization of peace and stability in Darfur following the resolution of the conflict that lasted for almost 15 years.
