Tripoli Libya's Head of the High Council of State (HCS) Abdulrahman Al-Swehli on Wednesday discussed the situation in the country with United Nations Special Envoy Ghassan Salame.
During the meeting, held at the HCS headquarters in Tripoli, the two sides discussed the political developments; the UN plan of action for the resumption of an inclusive Libyan-owned political process; the proposals to amend the political agreement; and ways to resume negotiations between the HCS and the House of Representatives. They also discussed the security situation in the country, especially in the capital Tripoli and the south.
Swehli called for implementing the security arrangements contained in the political agreement. He said these arrangements should be considered as a top priority to establish security and stability and provide the necessary conditions for state institutions to work without any pressure and carry out their functions toward citizens in the fullest manner.
The Council of State chairman praised the efforts exerted by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to alleviate the suffering of the Tawergha refugees. He also commended the Mission's endeavors to rebuild trust between the people of Tawergha and Misrata and to accelerate the implementation of the reconciliation agreement between them and facilitate the return of the Tawerghans to their homes.
