Jeddah (IINA) � Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen stated that the OIC Islamic Solidarity Fund (ISF) has contributed, since its inception in 1976 until this year 2017, to funding many social, cultural, economic, educational and health projects in the State of Palestine.
The total amounts contributed by the ISF, under the item of supporting the resilience and struggle of the Palestinian people, reached around $26.939 million.
The ISF contributed to supporting the Palestinian people during tribulations, disasters and calamities with a total amount of $18.155 million through the Emergency Committee. It contributed to the construction of mosques, schools and hospitals with a total amount of $4.577 million.
Al-Othaimeen explained that the ISF attached particular importance to supporting the sector of universities and scientific research centers in the State of Palestine, with a total amount of $1.655 million. It also contributed to funding several projects and activities of the Islamic cultural, social and recreational centers in the State of Palestine, with a total amount of $2.552 million.
The secretary general praised the efforts of the ISF executive committee as well as the efforts of the executive director and his colleagues for the support provided to the State and people of Palestine, and urged them to do more. He also called on the member states to continue to support the activities and financial resources of the ISF in order to enable it to carry out its duty.
It is noteworthy that Palestine remains the OIC's central issue, as the General Secretariat continuously seeks, through its various institutions, to boost the economic assistance to the Palestinian people, as one of their resilience tributaries in the face of the Israeli occupation and its restrictions on their livelihoods.
The OIC maintains cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Group and the member states with the view to contributing to supporting the Palestinians, enabling them to remain steadfast and build the institutions of their independent state, in a way to enhance the process of socioeconomic development.
