Kashmiris to observe Right to Self-Determination Day on Thursday

Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and the world over will observe Right to Self-Determination Day tomorrow.

Call for observance of the day has been given by All Parties Hurriyat Conference.

Protest demonstrations, rallies, seminars and other programs will be held in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan and in all major capitals of the world to invite world attention towards the long-pending Kashmir dispute.

It was on January 5 in 1949 when UN Security Council passed a historic resolution that the question of accession of the State of Jammu and Kashmir to India or Pakistan will be decided through democratic method of a free and impartial plebiscite.

Meanwhile, All Parties Hurriyat Conference leaders including Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar, Nayeem Ahmed Khan and Muhammad Yousuf Naqash in their statements in Srinagar said, January 05, 1949 resolution is a clear proof that Kashmir is not India’s internal matter but an internationally-recognized disputed territory.

The leaders urged the UN to fulfill its obligations regarding settlement of the Kashmir dispute in its historical perspective.

Senior APHC leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement called for a negotiated settlement of the Kashmir dispute to break the vortex of innocent killing in the territory.

Meanwhile, Indian troops continued massive cordon and search operations in Rajouri, Kishtwar and Reasi districts of Jammu region.
