Jeddah, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed the new peace plan outlined by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in his briefing to the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday.
In a press statement, the OIC underlined the need to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East, based on the two-state solution, the UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The Organization called on all concerned countries to adopt Abbas' proposal, especially with regard to the rapid convening of an international summit on the matter and the launch of a multilateral political process within a specific timeframe to resolve all final status issues. It also called for recognizing the State of Palestine as a full member state of the UN on the basis of 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The statement confirmed that these proposals are in line with the views and positions of the OIC and its commitment to support the efforts of the international community to realize a comprehensive and lasting peace in the region.
