Ramallah Executive Committee member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Dr. Hanan Ashrawi urged Denmark to recognize the Palestinian State and to hold Israel accountable for its ongoing breach of international law and violation of the rights of the Palestinians.
This came during a meeting with Head of the Representative Office of Denmark to the State of Palestine Nathalia Feinberg, at the PLO headquarters in Ramallah, where Ashrawi briefed the former on the latest domestic and regional developments. Both sides reviewed Palestinian-Danish relations and reaffirmed their commitment to forging an enhanced relationship between the two countries.
The PLO official expressed her appreciation of Denmark for its voting record in the United Nations, the latest of which was supporting the UN General Assembly resolution rejecting US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. She added, in this context, that the Trump administration "was enabling a racist and extremist Israeli coalition that is destroying all chances of peace."
Ashrawi thanked the government of Denmark for its support of the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. She also called on the Danish government to work with other European Union countries to support a just political initiative, as well as to continue its support for the civil society institutions and increase its funding to the Palestine refugee agency (UNRWA).
The two sides also discussed the internal situation and next month's Palestine National Council meeting. They agreed that the Palestinian reconciliation and holding the general elections are urgent requirements.
