Sindh Assembly, during its proceedings in Karachi on Friday passed the Sindh Universities and Institutes Law Amendment Bill 2018 with majority of votes.
Under the bill, the laws of 23 public sector universities and 2 institutions have been amended after which the Governor will not be the Chancellor of universities and Chief Minister will be the controlling authority of all educational institutions
The Chief Minister will also get the authority to appoint vice chancellors and pro-vice chancellors while admission policy will also be under Government's control according to the bill.
The opposition parties staged protest on the passage of the bill. They were of the view that the bill gives unnecessary control to the government in the matters of educational institutions.
The House also passed University of Modern Sciences Tando Mohammad Khan Bill 2017.
The House has now been adjourned to meet again on Monday at 10:00 am.
