Bethlehem (IINA) US President Donald Trump arrived Tuesday morning in the West Bank city of Bethlehem, where he was received by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
The national anthems of the United States and Palestine were played, and the two leaders inspected the guard of honor in front of the Presidential Palace thereafter. Then President Trump shook hands with senior Palestinian officials.
Diplomatic Adviser to President Abbas Dr. Majdi Al-Khalidi stressed the importance of Trump's visit to Palestine in re-launching efforts to achieve peace. He expressed the hope that this visit will push these efforts forward.
Al-Khalidi explained that Trump will complement his idea about the Palestinian issue through this visit, considering that the new US president's visit to Palestine is the second major bid in achieving peace after the visit of President Mahmoud Abbas to the White House. He added that after this visit there will be an opportunity to commence work within the framework of American, Russian, European and Arab efforts to push things toward ending the Israeli occupation.
