ISLAMABAD: Acting President Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani has stressed the need for relentless efforts and unshaken resolve to achieve Sustainable Development Goals. Addressing the 27th Sustainable Development Conference as Chief Guest in Islamabad, he highlighted the challenges posed by climate change, which are hindering the country's progress towards sustainable development. According to Radio Pakistan, Gillani emphasized the importance of strengthening governance frameworks to ensure transparency, accountability, and inclusivity. He praised the second edition of the Sustainability Investment Expo 2024, held alongside the conference, for showcasing cutting-edge technology, fostering collaboration, and attracting investment. Gillani noted that Pakistan has aligned its Vision 2025 with the SDGs to demonstrate a commitment to achieving sustainable development outcomes for broader human well-being. He highlighted that Pakistan's parliament is the first to transition to green energy by switching to solar power and has integrated SDGs into the national development agenda. During the ceremony, Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, reiterated the government's commitment under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's guidance to pursue resilience in national development. She emphasized the importance of reducing plastic pollution, encouraging recycling, and promoting sustainable alternatives to build resilience in communities.
