Islamabad: Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has called for a shift in Pakistan's disaster-management approach from emergency reaction to anticipatory planning. This includes technology-enabled forecasting, climate-resilient infrastructure, and accountable rehabilitation measures. He chaired a high-level meeting to review the monsoon situation, disaster-response operations, outstanding rehabilitation needs, and preparations for future climate emergencies in Islamabad.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ahsan Iqbal directed the National Disaster Management Authority, provincial authorities, and concerned departments to immediately begin preparations for Monsoon 2027. The meeting also addressed the issue of plastic waste, identifying it as a significant factor in urban flooding. In response, the minister called for a nationwide awareness and behaviour-change campaign, alongside effective enforcement of restrictions on polythene bags.
