Analyst Hails Government for Simplifying Tax Return Process

Islamabad: Dr. Hassan Daud But, an economist, has praised the government's initiative to simplify the procedure for filing tax returns. He believes this move is a positive step as it aims to make the process more accessible for ordinary citizens, ultimately broadening the tax base and boosting revenue collection.

According to Radio Pakistan, Dr. But dismissed the misconception that people are unwilling to pay taxes. He argued that citizens are indeed willing to fulfill their tax obligations if the process is made straightforward, equitable, and user-friendly. He emphasized that the tax system should be simplified to the extent that business owners would no longer need to hire consultants to complete tax return documentation.

Dr. But highlighted the role of digitization in enhancing the economy, noting that increased digital integration leads to economic growth. He commended the government's commitment to risk mitigation in the capital market, which has resulted in growing investor confidence and a bullish trend in the market. He acknowledged the efforts of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) in guiding the budget in the right direction, contributing to the robust performance of the Pakistan Stock Market (PSX).

The economist also pointed out that the expanding reach of the stock market is encouraging middle-class investment, with more individuals being convinced to invest in the PSX. He sees further opportunities for economic openness through digitization and anticipates that the government will shift the economy from stabilization to growth mode next year, creating significant opportunities for the common man in the country.
