Islamabad: Analysts have commended the courageous efforts of Pakistani forces following a recent encounter with terrorists in Bajaur, despite the tragic loss of personnel. Defence analyst Abdullah Hamid Gul highlighted the significant threat posed by terrorist infiltration from Afghanistan, urging the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to enhance the capacity of local law enforcement. He remarked on the substantial federal funding provided over the past decade, amounting to Rs 600 billion, and questioned the effectiveness of its utilization given the alarming 74% rise in terrorism incidents. According to Radio Pakistan, Gul emphasized the role of the Pakistan Army in countering terrorism, while questioning the effectiveness of local and provincial administrations. He advocated for the establishment of dedicated terrorist courts to expedite the judicial process. Gul also raised concerns about the misuse of US arms left in Afghanistan and criticized the Taliban for failing to uphold security commitmen ts as per the Doha Accord. He noted the presence of terrorist leadership in Afghanistan and called for concrete actions to eliminate these threats. Brig. (R) Waqar Hassan lauded the sacrifices of Pakistani soldiers who lost their lives in South Waziristan during operations aimed at defending the nation. He highlighted successful military efforts in Bajaur to clear the area of terrorists and reiterated the civil and military resolve to combat Indian-backed threats in the region. Hassan pointed out Pakistan's strategic leverage over Afghanistan, including Afghan transit trade and grain supply, urging the Afghan Taliban to reconsider their support for Indian proxies against Pakistan.
