Islamabad: Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari has taken an initiative to address the issue of Electricity Duty collection by writing letters to all provincial Chief Ministers. The letters emphasize the decision to stop collecting Electricity Duty through electricity bills starting next month.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister for Power has requested the cooperation of all Chief Ministers in addressing the complexities caused by the numerous charges, taxes, and duties included in consumer bills. He highlighted that the burden of levies, in addition to high electricity tariffs, complicates the billing structure, making it difficult for consumers to comprehend and manage their electricity expenses effectively.
Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari urged provincial governments to consider alternative mechanisms for collecting provincial levies and duties, rather than continuing to rely on electricity bills. He called for their collaboration in identifying and implementing new methods for revenue collection that would alleviate the complications faced by consumers.
