Finance Minister Aurangzeb Calls for Sustained Reforms for Economic Growth

Bangkok:Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has emphasized the importance of sustained implementation of reforms to turn macroeconomic stability into sustainable growth and enhance public welfare.

According to Radio Pakistan, Aurangzeb shared these views during a panel discussion titled "Mitigating Sovereign Risks in Market-Access Countries," held on the sidelines of the World Bank Group-IMF Annual Meetings 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The minister reiterated Pakistan's commitment to reforms in taxation, energy, state-owned enterprises, and pension systems under the IMF-supported program. He focused on the need for revenue mobilization, tax administration reforms, expenditure restraint, and privatization to strengthen economic resilience.

Aurangzeb highlighted Pakistan's achievements in fiscal consolidation, reducing inflation, and rebuilding foreign exchange reserves. He also outlined debt management strategies aimed at lowering financing costs, extending maturities, and reducing rollover risks.

He noted that renewed market access is a strategic move to improve Pakistan's external debt profile without increasing its overall size.
