Islamabad: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has emphasized the government's dedication to reinforcing the country's economic stability, building on the achieved macro-stability to further enhance economic strength. According to Radio Pakistan, Aurangzeb, speaking to the media in Islamabad, highlighted the impact of the government's prudent economic policies, noting a significant reduction in inflation from 38 percent to seven percent. Additionally, the policy rate has decreased from 22 percent to 15 percent, and foreign exchange reserves have improved from covering two weeks of imports to 2.5 months. The Minister mentioned that the international community, financial institutions, and rating agencies have praised the government's successful efforts in transitioning the country's economy from deficits to surpluses. During discussions with an IMF delegation visiting Pakistan, topics covered included energy and SOE reforms, the privatization agenda, and public finance, which Aurangzeb described as crucial fo r mutual credibility and trust. Aurangzeb also reported that the government had conveyed its commitment to the IMF regarding the rightsizing of the Federal Government. On matters of revenue and taxation, he asserted the government's firm stance on compliance and enforcement, urging every sector to fulfill its responsibilities. He further appealed to political parties, media, and other stakeholders to collaborate on charters focused on the environment and economy, aiming for a sustainable and prosperous future for coming generations.
