Govt’s Surplus Power Package Spurs Significant Uptick in Energy Usage

Islamabad: The government's Surplus Power Package has boosted electricity consumption in the industrial and agricultural sectors.

According to Radio Pakistan, the two sectors consumed a significant 2,164 GWh of additional electricity in just three months, from December last year to February this year.

This represents twenty-three percent of all units sold to these sectors during this period, indicating that the package has successfully triggered a substantial growth in energy demand.

Industries alone saved a total of 19.6 billion rupees, while agricultural consumers saved 1.14 billion rupees, resulting in cumulative financial relief amounting to 20.83 billion rupees.

Under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's special initiative to provide relief and support to the country's industry and agriculture sectors, the surplus electricity package was introduced with the lowest rate of 22.98 rupees per unit on incremental usage.
