GSP+ Status Boosts Pakistan’s Trade Prospects, Says Economist

Islamabad: Dr. Noor Fatima: The GSP+ status granted by the European Union is very important for Pakistan because Pakistan gets some kind of trade relaxations from EU under this status. This status is sole result of government's economic diplomacy and economic diplomacy is crucial in today's medium for marketing of products of any country. Therefore, GSP+ status is very vital of Pakistan to get access to the European markets with its products without much tariff barriers. Moreover, this status will give a boost to Pakistani trade especially textile sector. We need more skilled labour because skilled labour receives better demand along with good wages in other countries therefore the government needs to focus on human resource development sector.

According to Radio Pakistan, Dr. Noor Fatima emphasized that the GSP+ status is pivotal for enhancing Pakistan's presence in European markets. This trade facilitation allows Pakistan to export its products to Europe with reduced tariff barriers, thereby enhancing its competitive edge.

The economist highlighted the potential positive impact on the textile sector, which is a significant component of Pakistan's economy. The GSP+ status is expected to stimulate demand for Pakistani textiles, potentially leading to increased production and exports.

Dr. Fatima also pointed out the importance of developing skilled labor to meet the demands of international markets. Skilled workers not only have better employment opportunities but also command higher wages abroad. Therefore, she urged the government to prioritize human resource development to maximize the benefits of the GSP+ status.
