Washington: Pakistan's Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, has criticized India's stance on the Indus Waters Treaty, describing it as indicative of a pattern of lawlessness. During interactions with media outlets in Washington, Ambassador Sheikh emphasized that the treaty lacks any provision for unilateral termination or suspension.
According to Radio Pakistan, Ambassador Sheikh highlighted that the international community is unlikely to support any illegal actions that weaponize water resources. He expressed concern over statements from Indian leadership, suggesting they reflect a mindset rooted in Hindutva ideology. The Ambassador also pointed to the depiction of the Akhand Bharat map in the Indian Parliament as evidence of a hegemonic mentality.
Ambassador Sheikh further accused Indian leadership of exploiting the 'Pakistan card' for domestic political gain, warning that this approach stokes nationalism and could be extremely dangerous. He also mentioned that India's involvement in Balochistan is now widely recognized.
The Ambassador acknowledged the United States' significant role in maintaining a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. He praised former President Donald Trump as a proponent of peace and appreciated efforts to address the Kashmir issue. Ambassador Sheikh expressed hope that these peace efforts would continue and that a resolution would be achieved in line with established frameworks.
