ISLAMABAD: Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has announced a significant initiative to transform healthcare infrastructure at major ports across the country to withstand climate challenges. This initiative focuses on integrating climate adaptation measures into healthcare services at Karachi Port Trust Hospital, Port Qasim Medical Center, and Gwadar Port Hospital.
According to Radio Pakistan, the announcement was made during a meeting chaired by the Minister in Islamabad. The nationwide baseline assessment aims to evaluate the current state of these facilities and implement strategies for climate resilience. The Minister emphasized the importance of developing a comprehensive digital health roadmap. This roadmap is designed to enhance emergency preparedness for climate-induced disasters and ensure equitable medical services for vulnerable maritime and port communities.
The initial phase of the roadmap will focus on making targeted upgrades at the hospitals in Karachi Port, Port Qasim, and Gwadar. These upgrades will address essential needs such as improving trauma response capabilities and providing mental health care services. Junaid Anwar Chaudhry highlighted that maintaining the health and resilience of the maritime workforce is crucial for sustaining trade and national growth in the face of climate-related challenges.
