Islamabad: Pakistan and Belarus have agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in counter-terrorism, counter-narcotics, border security, and police training. The understanding was reached during a meeting between the visiting Interior Minister of Belarus, Ivan Kubrakov, and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad today. The meeting discussed bilateral ties and matters of mutual interest, with the two ministers also holding delegation-level talks.
According to Radio Pakistan, the meeting resulted in the finalization of the Pak-Belarus extradition agreement and the signing of a protocol for its implementation. The two sides agreed to form a Joint Working Group to further strengthen their bilateral ties. They also decided to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) soon to increase cooperation in counter-narcotics and agreed on a police training exchange program.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohsin Naqvi expressed that Pakistan values its relations with Belarus and is keen to advance these relations in all fields. He welcomed the signing of the MoU between Belarus and Pakistan's Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, stating it will enable several thousand Pakistanis to go to Belarus for employment. Naqvi assured that Pakistan would make every effort to send the best manpower to Belarus after thorough screening.
The Belarusian Interior Minister expressed his country's desire to promote mutual cooperation with Pakistan in all fields. He acknowledged the hardworking nature of the Pakistani people and invited Mohsin Naqvi to visit Belarus, saying it will help promote bilateral relations.
