Pakistan: Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, has affirmed the country's commitment to fostering dialogue, interfaith harmony, and education as means to combat Islamophobia. In a message delivered on the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, Ambassador Ahmad emphasized the importance of building trust and understanding among different communities.
According to Radio Pakistan, the ambassador urged the global community to reject divisive tendencies such as discrimination, exclusivity, racism, and intolerance. He highlighted the significance of this day in expressing solidarity with victims of Islamophobia and underscoring the threat it poses to the lives, dignity, and heritage of Muslims worldwide. He also called for a renewed commitment to fighting Islamophobia in all its forms.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar pointed out the varied manifestations of Islamophobia, including violent attacks on Muslims, the demolition of mosques, the desecration of the Holy Quran, and the disparagement of Muslim cultural and religious symbols like the hijab. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts with like-minded countries and the United Nations to establish a structured approach to identifying, monitoring, and combating Islamophobic trends, discourses, and incidents.
