Pakistan: Pakistan says revitalizing the UN General Assembly is essential to strengthen the credibility of the United Nations. The statement was made by Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations Ambassador Usman Jadoon while speaking at the thematic debate of the UN General Assembly's Working Group on Strengthening and Revitalizing of its work.
According to Radio Pakistan, Ambassador Jadoon called for advancing democratic, multilateral decision making, a more transparent and inclusive process for the selection of the Secretary General, and stronger institutional support for the Office of the President of the General Assembly. He emphasized the significance of the selection of the Secretary General, noting that the Secretary General's leadership influences the Organization's credibility, effectiveness, and moral authority.
Ambassador Jadoon stated that Pakistan supports consolidating the General Assembly's role throughout the selection process to ensure it remains Member-State driven. He also advocated for greater representation of women in leadership roles and reiterated that no position in the UN system should be considered the exclusive preserve of any Member State.
The Ambassador emphasized that revitalization efforts must produce tangible outcomes and measurable institutional strengthening of the General Assembly. He reaffirmed Pakistan's readiness to engage constructively in advancing the shared objectives.
