Pakistan: Pakistan has called for stronger and non-discriminatory global cooperation to prevent proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
According to Radio Pakistan, the call was made by Pakistan's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, while speaking during a Security Council briefing on the 1540 Committee. The Ambassador highlighted the importance of promoting non-proliferation, noting its significance in a complex global environment filled with conflicts, tensions, and security challenges.
Ambassador Jadoon also emphasized that non-proliferation efforts should not impede international cooperation in the peaceful use of dual-use technologies. These technologies are crucial for economic development, particularly in the Global South. He reaffirmed that all countries have an inalienable right to use nuclear energy and related technologies for peaceful purposes, in line with non-proliferation and international legal obligations.
