Pakistan Calls on India to Honor Kashmir Obligations at United Nations

New York:United Nations Pakistan has emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir is a recognized disputed territory at the United Nations, asserting that its final status should be determined in line with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people as outlined in various UN Security Council resolutions.

According to Radio Pakistan, First Secretary Sarfaraz Ahmed Gohar, exercising his right of reply at the UN General Assembly's Third Committee, highlighted that these Security Council resolutions assure the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination. He criticized India for violating its international legal obligations by failing to implement these resolutions.

Gohar stated that Jammu and Kashmir has never been, is not, and will never be an integral part of India, urging India to adhere to its international obligations to resolve the dispute in accordance with the Security Council resolutions. He called for an end to the suppression of rights and freedoms of the people in the occupied territory under what he described as illegal control by India.

He further emphasized Pakistan's commitment to dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful resolution of disputes, as outlined in the United Nations Charter. He advised India to adopt a similar approach for the sake of regional peace, security, stability, and the prosperity of the over 1.5 billion people living in South Asia.
