Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar announced that Pakistan is extending all possible diplomatic and legal support to secure the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui. He made these remarks during a media briefing at the book launch event for "The Tiger of the Islamic World," a book honoring Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in Islamabad.
According to Radio Pakistan, Minister Tarar clarified that Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar's comments on Dr Aafia Siddiqui's case were misinterpreted. He also mentioned that Dr Fauzia Siddiqui, Dr Aafia's sister, recently held talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The Minister revealed that a legal committee, led by the Minister for Law and Justice, has been formed to intensify efforts for Dr Aafia's release, noting that such significant efforts are rare.
Addressing other issues, Tarar clarified that Ishaq Dar is not part of the Sugar Advisory Board. On the topic of cryptocurrency, he mentioned that Pakistan is the only country in the region with explicit rules and regulations, expressing optimism about growth in this sector.
During the book launch, authored by Dr Furqan Hameed, Tarar praised Recep Tayyip Erdogan as a principled leader who has strengthened Pakistan-Turkiye relations. He highlighted ongoing development projects, bilateral collaborations, and people-to-people exchanges between the two nations.
Tarar also noted the enthusiasm of the Turkish people in celebrating Pakistan's victory over India. He commended Erdogan as a strong advocate for Palestinians and condemned Israel's actions in Palestine, labeling the targeting of women, children, and innocent civilians as genocide.
