Pakistan Rejects India’s Assertions on Jammu and Kashmir Status

Islamabad: Pakistan has categorically rejected India's assertions regarding the status of Jammu and Kashmir, stating these claims are contrary to internationally recognized facts.

According to Radio Pakistan, in response to media queries about a statement from India's Ministry of External Affairs concerning the map of the disputed Jammu and Kashmir region, Foreign Office Spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan emphasized that India's unilateral actions and continued occupation cannot change the internationally recognized disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir.

The spokesperson highlighted that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains one of the unresolved issues on the United Nations Security Council's agenda. UN resolutions require that its final disposition be decided according to the Security Council resolutions and the will of the Kashmiri people through a free and impartial plebiscite under UN auspices.

He further explained that the official United Nations maps, which show Jammu and Kashmir as a disputed territory, are the only accurate representation of its current legal status. India's official maps and unilateral claims of sovereignty do not affect the status of the disputed territory.

The spokesperson called on the international community to ensure that India halts human rights violations in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and fulfills its commitment to the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination, as outlined in the relevant UNSC resolutions.
