Pakistan’s Maritime Sector Achieves Major Milestones

Islamabad: Pakistan's maritime sector has achieved major milestones following reforms introduced by the Prime Minister's Task Force.

According to Radio Pakistan, the completed reforms include the preparation of a national ports master plan, implementation of a uniform port tariff, and the facilitation of transit trade. These reforms aim to streamline operations and increase efficiency across the country's ports.

The reforms further include enhancing port capacity and establishing a modern monitoring system for Special Economic Zones. Efforts have also been made to eliminate encroachments from Karachi Port land, improving accessibility and security.

Additional measures involve updating customs rules for transshipment and bunkering activities, alongside promoting the local shipbuilding and repair industry. These initiatives are expected to boost economic growth and create new opportunities within the maritime sector.

At the provincial level, a five-year fisheries development plan has been finalized, focusing on sustainable practices and resource management. Moreover, ship recycling activities have resumed after an eight-year hiatus, marking a significant development in the industry.
