PM Applauds FBR for Exceeding Revenue Collection Goal

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has praised the Federal Board of Revenue's officers and staff for exceeding their revenue collection target of 12.957 trillion rupees during the last fiscal year.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister made these remarks while meeting a delegation of senior FBR officers in Islamabad. He highlighted the achievement of the historic revenue target for fiscal year 2025-26 as a significant national accomplishment, personally congratulating each officer and the entire FBR workforce.

Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that the timely payment of nearly 600 billion rupees in tax refunds during fiscal year 2025-26 aided the business community and fostered export growth. He expressed confidence in the FBR's continued performance, urging the Board to maintain its dedication to surpassing the 15 trillion rupee revenue target for the current fiscal year.

The Prime Minister attributed the record revenue collection to reforms in the FBR over the past two and a half years, focusing on digitization and teamwork. He shared that he chaired review meetings on FBR matters twice a month, as reforms in the tax authority are one of the government's top priorities.

Shehbaz Sharif assured that only officers with good reputations were appointed in FBR field formations, stressing that corruption has no place in the organization. He directed FBR officers to prioritize facilitating taxpayers and the business community alongside revenue collection, aiming to accelerate ongoing reforms with an expanded tax net, increased transparency, and improved taxpayer facilitation.

The FBR's new operating model will focus on a digital, faceless tax administration system with minimal human intervention. The Prime Minister also instructed the formation of a high-level committee to recommend improvements in the service structure for the Pakistan Customs Service and the Inland Revenue Service.

Acknowledging contributions from key government figures and FBR officers, Shehbaz Sharif also commended Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and law enforcement agencies for curbing smuggling and ensuring the security of FBR officers. He particularly praised those serving in remote areas for their dedication to enforcing tax and customs laws despite risks.

The delegation expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for his focus on the FBR and recognition of its officers' performance. The briefing included reports on the performance of field formations across the country, noting that the Karachi Large Taxpayers Unit collected 528 billion rupees in revenue in June 2026, while the Lahore Large Taxpayers Unit collected 261 billion rupees in the same period. Additionally, customs duty collection at airports saw a 21 percent increase over the past year.
