PM Calls for Comprehensive Strategy to Prevent Over-Invoicing

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said a comprehensive strategy should be developed to prevent incidents of over-invoicing. Chairing a meeting regarding the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in Islamabad, he noted that over-invoicing continued in the years between 2017 and 2022, while the relevant authorities remained consistently negligent.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister directed swift legal action against individuals involved in the malpractice of over-invoicing. A report from the committee formed to investigate over-invoicing was presented at the meeting. The Prime Minister emphasized the need to identify those responsible for negligence and expedite departmental action against them.

Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that taxpayers' money is a national trust and stressed the importance of accounting for every penny responsibly. He also called for the Financial Monitoring Unit (FMU) to be made more effective, suggesting the involvement of representatives from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the Intelligence Bureau.

It was informed during the meeting that the FBR has established a Centralized Price Verification Portal, which is set to be linked with banks by the end of June.
