Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed the government's commitment to the GSP Plus scheme, highlighting its mutual benefits for both Pakistan and the European Union. He expressed this resolve during a meeting with the European Union Ambassador, Riina Kionka, who visited the Prime Minister for a farewell call in Islamabad.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister congratulated Ambassador Kionka on the successful completion of her tenure in Pakistan and extended his gratitude for her significant contributions to strengthening Pakistan-EU relations. He specifically acknowledged her efforts in securing substantial support from the EU during the 2022 floods in Pakistan.
Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of the European Union as one of Pakistan's largest trading partners. He also conveyed his good wishes to the EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, expressing his interest in meeting her at a convenient time in the near future.
During the meeting, various important issues between Pakistan and the EU, including domestic political developments, were discussed. The EU Ambassador expressed her gratitude for the support she received during her stay in Pakistan and affirmed the EU's commitment to enhancing cooperation with Pakistan.
Ambassador Riina Kionka, while expressing appreciation for the Prime Minister's good wishes, stated that she would continue to advocate for stronger Pakistan-EU relations in her upcoming role in Brussels.
