PM Shehbaz Lauds ADB’s Role in Pakistan’s Development

Islamabad: President of Asian Development Bank Masato Kanda called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad today. During the meeting, the Prime Minister appreciated the Asian Development Bank's long-standing partnership with Pakistan. He said ADB has always been a reliable partner in Pakistan's journey of development and prosperity.

According to Radio Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif expressed satisfaction that ADB is showing interest in partnering on several major projects in Pakistan, which can prove transformative for the country's economic landscape. He highlighted potential collaboration in the sectors of railways, public transport, and minerals, noting that such cooperation would be highly beneficial for Pakistan's economy.

The Prime Minister briefed the ADB delegation on the reforms introduced by the Government of Pakistan, which include increasing tax revenues, restructuring the energy sector, improving fiscal stability, addressing the devastating impacts of climate change, reducing untargeted subsidies, and expanding social protection.

On this occasion, the ADB President acknowledged Pakistan's long-standing association with the Bank as a founding member. He commended the Government of Pakistan for undertaking comprehensive reforms and reaffirmed the Bank's continued support for Pakistan. Masato Kanda reiterated ADB's commitment to strengthening cooperation in infrastructure development, climate change initiatives, and institutional reforms in Pakistan.
