Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the need to bring the housing sector under a regulatory framework to attract foreign investment in it.
According to Radio Pakistan, while chairing a meeting regarding the housing sector in Islamabad, the Prime Minister highlighted the government's priorities, which include providing housing for low-income groups, facilitating affordable housing projects, encouraging private sector participation, and improving public facilities.
Shehbaz Sharif underscored the necessity for reforms in the housing sector, especially in light of the growing population. He expressed concerns about the increasing pressure on agricultural land due to unplanned urban sprawl, stressing the need for an appropriate strategy to address this issue.
The Prime Minister also stated that all matters in the housing sector would be digitized and automated to enhance transparency. During the meeting, various proposals were presented regarding reforms, with a strategy to prevent unplanned urban expansion being a focal point.
The meeting concluded with an emphasis on encouraging high-rise buildings and vertical expansion in major cities to manage urban growth efficiently.
