Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has called for further strengthening Pakistan-Lebanon cooperation, particularly in the fields of internal security, law enforcement, and counter-narcotics. He was speaking with Lebanese Minister of Interior and Municipalities Ahmad Al-Hajjar, who visited him in Islamabad today.

According to Radio Pakistan, the President expressed concern over the ongoing instability and hostilities in Lebanon and the wider Middle East, highlighting their humanitarian and security consequences. He reaffirmed Pakistan's principled support for Lebanon's sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity.

The President emphasized Pakistan's backing for diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation, sustainable peace, and resolution of disputes through dialogue in accordance with international law. He underscored the necessity of exploring enhanced cooperation in extradition and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, as well as exchanging expertise in disaster preparedness, emergency response, urban search and rescue, emergency communications, and humanitarian logistics.

Asif Ali Zardari expressed optimism that the engagement would inject fresh momentum into Pakistan-Lebanon cooperation and establish a stronger foundation for sustained collaboration. Ahmad Al-Hajjar expressed his appreciation for Pakistan's support for Lebanon and the role Pakistan has played in the region, stressing the importance of reinforcing cooperation between the two countries, especially in security and law enforcement.
