Promoting Clean, Affordable Energy Through Solar Power Key to National Energy Policy: PM

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized that promoting clean, affordable, and sustainable energy through solar power is a critical component of the national energy policy.

According to Radio Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made these remarks while chairing a meeting in Islamabad focused on Gilgit-Baltistan's 100 MW solar power project. He described the 100 MW solar project as a gift from the federal government to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan and directed the Power Division to ensure the project's timely completion.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Sharif stressed the importance of complete transparency in the procurement process for the solar project. He instructed that all payments should be made only after third-party validation to maintain accountability.

The meeting included a briefing on the progress of the Gilgit-Baltistan solar power project. Officials informed that the project would install eighteen MW of rooftop solar systems, with battery storage, on four hundred and ninety-nine government buildings by December this year.

Additionally, it was disclosed that the PC-I for the 82 MW utility-scale solar project has been submitted to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for approval. The project is expected to benefit approximately 1.3 million people, contributing significantly to the region's energy needs.
