Zhengzhou: The Shanghai Cooperation Organization Media and Think Tank Summit commenced on Friday in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan Province, China, highlighting the vital role of media and intelligentsia in fostering people-to-people connections and cross-national harmony among SCO member states. The Summit aims to promote the 'Shanghai Spirit', which is centered on mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, and respect for cultural diversity.
According to Radio Pakistan, the term 'Shanghai Spirit' is derived from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and signifies a commitment to common development goals. The Summit has attracted over 400 representatives from media outlets, as well as international and regional organizations from SCO member states and dialogue partners. Notably, the Pakistani delegation includes Mr. Saeed Ahmed Shaikh, Director General of Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation.
The Summit is organized under the aegis of the State Council Information Office of the People's Republic of China and is jointly hosted by Xinhua News Agency, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the People's Government of Henan Province. It serves as a precursor to the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of States of SCO, which is anticipated to take place in China on August 31, 2025.
A key outcome of the SCO Media and Think Tank Summit will be the 'Zhengzhou Consensus', a document that will outline strategies to uphold the 'Shanghai Spirit' for a peaceful and prosperous world.
