Taliban Criticized for Failing to Address Terror Threats

Hanoi:The Afghan Taliban regime has been criticized for engaging in rhetoric rather than addressing the terrorist threat from within its territory.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting highlighted that the Taliban's diversionary tactics, including attempts to focus on Pakistan's internal matters, fail to address the significant issue of terrorist groups using Afghanistan as a base to plan and launch attacks against Pakistan.

The ministry referenced the UN Security Council's Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team's Sixteenth Report, which estimated the presence of around 6,000 Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) fighters in Afghanistan and noted the Taliban's support for the group. These findings, the ministry stated, are well-documented and cannot simply be dismissed as propaganda.

Further criticism was directed at the Taliban regime's governance, especially concerning its restrictions on girls' education and human rights abuses. The ministry urged the Taliban to take concrete actions to tackle these issues rather than deny them.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting reiterated Pakistan's commitment to dialogue, emphasizing that progress hinges on the Taliban regime's fulfillment of its counterterrorism commitments and taking verifiable actions against terrorist sanctuaries. It asserted that Pakistan would take all necessary steps, in line with international law, to protect its citizens and sovereignty, urging the regime to cease allowing Afghan territory to be used for attacks against Pakistan.
