Three New Submarine Cables Laid to Enhance Internet Connectivity in Pakistan

Islamabad: Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja announced that three new submarine cables have been laid to boost internet connectivity across the country.

According to Radio Pakistan, the announcement was made during the Question Hour in the National Assembly, where the Minister emphasized ongoing efforts to improve connectivity through the fiberization of mobile towers. She also revealed that a six hundred MHz spectrum auction is scheduled for Tuesday and will be broadcast live to ensure transparency. This initiative is anticipated to double internet speeds in Pakistan, with 5G services expected to launch in five major cities by the end of the year.

The Minister assured that the government will implement robust cybersecurity measures, underscoring that securing the nation's digital boundaries is a critical national security concern. The commitment to enhance these measures reflects the government's dedication to protecting Pakistan's digital landscape.

In response to another inquiry, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry highlighted that initiatives under the Special Investment Facilitation Centre have attracted investments worth billions of dollars.

Addressing a Calling Attention Notice, Parliamentary Secretary for National Health Services Nelson Azeem informed the National Assembly that the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan is currently evaluating a vaccine for the Hepatitis Delta Virus. He also mentioned that the HPV vaccine is being administered to girls aged nine to fourteen, accompanied by an awareness campaign about its importance.

The House successfully passed 'The National Accountability (Amendment) Bill, 2026', introduced by Mah Jabeen Khan Abbasi. The National Assembly is scheduled to reconvene tomorrow at 11 in the morning.
