Islamabad: National Disaster Management Authority has announced that a 550,000 cusec flood wave is moving towards Panjnad. Combined inflows from the rivers Chenab, Sutlej, and others could increase the total to 650,000-700,000 cusecs at Panjnad.
According to Radio Pakistan, the wave is expected to reach Guddu Barrage by Saturday with 450,000-500,000 cusecs. The flood wave will merge with the Indus River at Kot Mithan and can potentially be controlled at Taunsa Barrage to limit the flow to 200,000 cusecs. This major wave may eventually reach Guddu at 650,000-700,000 cusecs and continue its course through Sukkur and Kotri Barrages toward the sea by the 12th or 13th of this month.
Under instructions from the Prime Minister, NDMA is supervising all rescue and relief operations, working in coordination with civil and military agencies. Authorities have instructed residents living near rivers and waterways to relocate to safer areas and cooperate with local authorities. The NDMA has also advised against unnecessary travel in flood-affected zones and recommended the use of the NDMA Disaster Alert App for real-time updates.
Additionally, heavy rainfall is expected in the next 12-24 hours in Kashmir regions, including Mirpur, Neelum Valley, Rawalakot, Muzaffarabad, and other areas. Consequently, the risk of urban flooding and landslides remains high.
