Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the establishment of the Punjab Cybercrime Unit to combat online harassment and blackmailing, specifically targeting women and children.
According to Radio Pakistan, the approval was given during a meeting chaired by the Punjab Chief Minister in Lahore. The meeting finalized plans to set up the Punjab Police Cyber Patrol Wing and Cyber Police Academy, aiming to strengthen digital law enforcement in the province.
Speaking at the meeting, the Chief Minister directed the concerned authorities to adopt a proactive strategy against cybercriminals. This includes the development of an advanced intelligence system for monitoring and surveillance of social media platforms. Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized that cybercrime is a serious and growing challenge, underlining the government's commitment to protecting the younger generation.
The Chief Minister also announced the introduction of a mobile complaint unit and a virtual police station, ensuring easy access and complete anonymity for victims.
