COMSTECH and African Centre of Excellence Host Workshop on Bioinformatics in Mali

Bamako: COMSTECH, in collaboration with the African Centre of Excellence, organized a workshop in Mali focusing on bioinformatics to analyze genomic data for genetic and infectious diseases. The event aimed to enhance the skills of public health professionals, doctoral students, clinicians, and molecular biologists in genomic data analysis and interpretation.

According to Union of OIC News Agencies, the workshop adopted a hybrid format, accommodating both in-person and virtual participation. This approach was intended to build capacity in a field that remains underdeveloped in many OIC member states due to the lack of specialized training programs. The workshop's primary goal was to support the development of bioinformatics skills and boost genomic research capabilities in West Africa.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Mahamadou Diakite, President of the University of Science, Technology and Technology of Bamako (USTTB). Professor Diakite praised COMSTECH's efforts in advancing scientific knowledge and capacity building in Mali and the wider West African region.

The event attracted around 150 participants from various academic and professional backgrounds, marking a significant step in the region's pursuit of improved bioinformatics expertise. This workshop represents a landmark initiative in supporting the growth of genomic research in West Africa.
