Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has deeply appreciated the Chinese vision for proposing and establishing the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed). He was speaking at the signing ceremony of the Convention establishing IOMed in Hong Kong, the Special Administrative Region of China. During the ceremony, the Deputy Prime Minister signed the Convention on behalf of Pakistan, extending his congratulations to China for hosting the event.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the pivotal role of Chinese leadership in transforming the initiative from a shared concept into a practical reality, showcasing their wisdom. He emphasized that the signing ceremony marks the beginning of a new era in international mediation and diplomacy, signaling the birth of an important global institution that supports the principles of multilateralism and mediation.
Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan’s belief that peace and security, along with global prosperity, can be achieved through adherence to the principles of the UN Charter and the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions and international law. He expressed concern over recent military aggression by India, stating it violated international law and posed a serious threat to regional and international peace and security.
The Deputy Prime Minister criticized India’s actions, such as holding international treaties like the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 in abeyance and violating international human rights law. He stated these acts of aggression ignored calls from the international community for restraint and de-escalation. Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the peaceful resolution of disputes, particularly concerning the unresolved Jammu and Kashmir dispute, which he identified as the primary source of conflict in South Asia.
