Extraordinary Flood Threatens Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej Rivers

Islamabad: An extraordinary flood situation has been reported in the rivers Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej, causing alarm across the region.

According to Radio Pakistan, the flood levels in these rivers have reached significant heights, posing a potential threat to surrounding areas.

There is a very high flood level of 769,481 cusecs at Marala in the Chenab River, with expectations of further increases. At Khanki on the Chenab River, an extremely high flood discharge of 705,225 cusecs has been recorded, although the flow is showing signs of decreasing. The Ravi River at Jassar is experiencing a high flood of 202,200 cusecs, with potential to rise to 229,700 cusecs. Meanwhile, at Shahdara, the Ravi River is carrying a flow of 72,900 cusecs, putting low-lying areas such as Shahdara, Park View, and Motorway-2 at risk of flooding.

In the Sutlej River at Ganda Singh Wala, an extremely high flood level of 245,000 cusecs continues to flow. The current flow at Sulemanki in the Sutlej River is measured at 100,355 cusecs. In response to the situation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to oversee all rescue and relief efforts. The National Emergencies Operation Center remains fully operational around the clock, maintaining contact with civil and military agencies to coordinate efforts.

Residents living along riverbanks and waterways have been advised to evacuate and move to safe locations immediately to ensure their safety.
