Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the use of a modern and automated tax management system to promote transparency and public confidence in the tax system and increase revenues. He was chairing a meeting in Islamabad today to review ongoing reforms in the Federal Board of Revenue.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister stated that minimizing human intervention and discretionary powers in the tax collection system is necessary. He mentioned that an automated and modern tax management system will be a milestone in the government's reform agenda, ensuring the continuation of FBR reforms to expand the tax net.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the provincial governments for their actions against illegal cigarettes. He instructed that the proposed pilot project for the automated collection of income tax be launched from Islamabad. The meeting was informed that the proposed new tax system can identify under-reported income and assets through data from properties, vehicles, and banks. A comprehensive plan to make inland revenue collections more effective and transparent was also presented.
