Karachi: Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, addressed the growing concern over widespread visa rejections by the UAE, announcing plans to meet with the UAE Interior Minister to discuss the issue, which notably affects Pakistani citizens in the business community. He expressed optimism about reaching a resolution to facilitate smoother business travel between the two nations. According to Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Naqvi emphasized steps being taken to improve the global ranking of the Pakistani passport, projecting significant progress within the next two years. During his visit to KCCI, he was welcomed by prominent members, including Chairman Businessmen Group (BMG) Zubair Motiwala and President KCCI Muhammad Jawed Bilwani. Naqvi highlighted the peaceful observance of Muharram across Pakistan, attributing it to the efforts of security forces and a strategic shift in communication restrictions. He also touched upon ongoing efforts to bolster Ka rachi's economic health, pledging support for resolving budget-related concerns raised by KCCI. Addressing anti-smuggling measures, Naqvi noted the significant reduction in smuggling activities, though challenges persist. He detailed the enhancement of the Pakistan Coast Guard's capabilities and infrastructure to strengthen border security operations. In response to KCCI's security concerns, he noted the existing Interior Ministry's CNIC and SIM verification setup, exploring ways to extend this system to KCCI for employment background checks. Naqvi reiterated the importance of the Safe City Project in Karachi for crime prevention and committed to its effective implementation. Naqvi invited KCCI to collaborate with the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) to establish a rehabilitation center for drug addicts, aiming for societal reintegration. He acknowledged the reduction in crime by Sindh Police, despite challenges due to Karachi's size. On the issue of encroachments, Naqvi called for stricter laws and penalties. Motiwala highlighted ongoing encroachment challenges and urged for police reforms, including merit-based promotions and salary revisions to foster integrity. Motiwala proposed appointing a liaison officer at KCCI for confidential complaints from the business community and stressed the need for effective water management solutions in Karachi. He recommended regular visits by the Interior Minister to maintain engagement with the business community. President KCCI Jawed Bilwani appreciated the Ministry's strategy for peaceful Muharram observance and proposed AI-based cameras at key points to combat smuggling and crime. He advocated for enhancing facilities at the NADRA Executive Center at KCCI to aid businesses in hiring individuals with clean records. Bilwani expressed concern over the Anomaly Committee's inefficacies and the impact on business activity, urging a shift back to the Final Tax Regime to support exporters. He also highlighted the growing drug problem in educational institutions and called for st rict action against traffickers.
