Islamabad: Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq emphasized the critical role of parliamentary diplomacy in tackling mutual challenges, especially in climate resilience and disaster management, during a meeting with Ireland Ambassador Ms. Mary O'Neill in Islamabad.
According to Radio Pakistan, the speaker welcomed the ambassador and stressed the importance of deepening parliamentary connections between Pakistan and Ireland, noting that such interactions are essential for enhancing bilateral cooperation. He pointed out the recent catastrophic floods in Pakistan, highlighting that despite the country's minimal contribution of only 0.6 percent to global carbon emissions, it remains one of the most affected by climate change. The destruction from the current floods has exceeded the damage caused by the 2022 floods, he added.
The Irish ambassador conveyed her condolences over the loss of lives and property due to the floods and promised comprehensive support from Ireland for the rehabilitation efforts aimed at the flood-affected communities. She also praised the Pakistani diaspora in Ireland, particularly for their significant contributions to the health sector, acknowledging their service as commendable.
