Islamabad: A week-long anti-polio drive will start from Monday to protect twenty-eight million children across ninety-nine high-risk districts of the country. Anti-polio drops will be administered to children less than five years of age to protect them from lifelong paralysis.
According to Radio Pakistan, over two hundred forty thousand frontline health workers and teams will go door-to-door to ensure that no child is missed across Balochistan, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Islamabad. The initiative aims to safeguard young children from the debilitating effects of polio and strengthen the country's efforts to eradicate the disease entirely.
The extensive mobilization of health workers underscores the government's commitment to reaching every child in these vulnerable districts. The campaign is crucial for maintaining high immunity against the virus, especially in areas that have historically shown low vaccination rates. By ensuring comprehensive coverage, health officials hope to curb any potential resurgence of polio cases in the region.
This proactive measure reflects the ongoing efforts to prioritize children's health and build a polio-free future. The collaboration between various health departments and community members is pivotal for the success of this campaign, highlighting the collective responsibility towards eradicating polio.
