Pakistan and US Pledge to Strengthen Bilateral Relations

Washington: Pakistan and the United States have reiterated their commitment to work together to promote bilateral relations and build strong and coordinated relations in various sectors. The resolve was expressed during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington.

According to Radio Pakistan, the two sides exchanged views on the promotion of bilateral trade and economic ties and cooperation in important sectors including investment, agriculture, technology, and minerals. The discussion also focused on counter-terrorism and regional peace.

Speaking on this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Dar lauded the efforts of President Donald Trump and the US leadership regarding the promotion of global peace. He commended the role and efforts of the US President in the recent Pakistan-India standoff. Dar stated that Pakistan is eager to further expand and strengthen its bilateral relations with the US and is hopeful for positive progress in the ongoing trade dialogue between the two countries.

Ishaq Dar highlighted the alignment of interests between the two countries regarding regional peace and emphasized the role of the Pakistani diaspora in the United States as a bridge between the two nations. He noted that Pakistan is an attractive destination for the US business community and investors.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio acknowledged the significant sacrifices made by Pakistan in the war against terror and recognized Pakistan's positive role in establishing global and regional peace. This meeting marked the first one-on-one interaction between the Foreign Ministers of Pakistan and the United States, following previous telephonic contacts.

Pakistan's Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, was also present during the meeting. Meanwhile, at an event hosted by the Atlantic Council in Washington, Deputy Prime Minister Dar emphasized the need for a sustainable architecture of peace in South Asia. Discussing the ceasefire between India and Pakistan in May 2025, he credited the US as a credible arbiter of peace and stability in the region. He affirmed that Pakistan's relationship with the United States is enduring, wide-ranging, and evolving.
