Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to Global Human Rights Protection

Geneva: Pakistan has reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights worldwide. This commitment was expressed by Secretary Ministry of Human Rights Abdul Khalique Shaikh at the 61st Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Secretary emphasized that human rights are not a luxury reserved for favorable times, but must be cherished and protected amid uncertainty, conflicts, and complex global challenges. As an elected member of the Human Rights Council, Pakistan reiterated its constructive engagement with the UN human rights framework.

Highlighting the aggravated global and regional human rights situation, the Secretary expressed grave concern over violations and suppression of fundamental freedoms in Afghanistan, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, and Palestine.

Drawing attention to the grave humanitarian situation in Palestine, he warned that continued violence and impunity are further destabilizing the region and undermining prospects for lasting peace.

The Secretary also expressed deep concern over rising religious intolerance in political discourse, particularly the growing trend of Islamophobia as a tool for prejudice against Muslims. He urged the international community to step up collective efforts to combat hatred, discrimination, and deep-seated inequalities within and among States.
